Jerome Thomas Slack

Jerome Thomas “Tom” Slack, age 53, of Plano passed away suddenly on December 22, 2010. He is survived by his “hometown honey” and wife of 29 years, Mary Propes Slack of Plano, his son and daughter-in-law Ryan and Shannon Slack of Bryan, TX, his daughter Elizabeth Slack of Plano, his mother Shirley Slack of Wheaton, IL, and his two sisters; Patricia Vish (Richard) of West Chicago, IL, and Stacy Slack of Wheaton, IL.

Tom was born on April 22nd, 1957 in La Grange, IL, the son of Shirley Keegan Slack and the late Jerome Burton Slack. He graduated from Wheaton Central High School and received his college degree from the University of Iowa in 1980. A scholarship athlete throughout his college career, Tom achieved All-American honors in Varsity Track & Field in 1977. Tom worked as a sales professional throughout his career, but his true focus always remained at home. He was an incredibly dedicated husband and father, and an avid sports fan that always remained loyal to his Iowa Hawkeyes.

Memorial services to celebrate Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, January 8th. The service will take place at 11:00am at the Ted Dickey West Chapel in Dallas, TX. Following the services, there will be a reception in the funeral home reception center. Donations to the University of Iowa Track & Field program can be sent to the UI Foundation, P.O. Box 4550, Iowa City, IA 52244 with "Tom Slack" in the memo.
