You stand in the dark, heart even now filling, and think of a boy who, drunk with the perfume of elder blossoms and the massiveness of moonrise, stood in a lone lane, and cried out, in a rage of joy, to seize, and squeeze, significance from, what life is, whatever it is. Now high above the maples the moon presides. The first bat mathematically zigzags the stars. You fling down the cigarette butt. Set heel on it. It is time to go in.
