

John Martin Dees of Richardson, Texas, passed on June 11, 2016. He was born on February 10, 1954 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Martin David and Montez LaVerne (Seymour) Dees. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1972. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1975 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. John completed his Master of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1979 from the University of Oklahoma. In December 1975, he married the love of his life, Janice. Upon graduation from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, he started his career at Halliburton Research Center. John then worked for Getty Oil Company and Oryx Energy. In 1994, he founded Dees Well Completions. He continued his career at Reef Exploration and retired from Encana Oil and Gas. After retiring, John returned to full time consulting work with Dees Well Completions. During his career, he held seven U.S. patents with several related foreign patents. In May 2016, John was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Perforating Forum in recognition of his contributions made to the improvement of well productivity, including extreme overbalanced perforating and shale completion methods. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and Pop who cherished his wife, three daughters, and three granddaughters. John will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him..
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Dees; daughters, Jessie Lowery and husband, Chris, Jeannie McAfee and husband, Grant, and Johnna Dees; twin brother, Don Dees and wife, Janet; sister, Janie Shaw and husband Clyde; mother, Montez Dees, and granddaughters Kayson, Macie and Presley.
He is preceded in death by his father, David Dees.
The family will receive friends at a Visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, TX 75252. A Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Plano, 1300 E. 15th St, Plano, TX 75074. Burial will follow at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, TX.
