John Martin Rainey, born June 28, 1945, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family. He spent most of his childhood in Houston, where he grew up, made lifelong friends, and began shaping the life that would touch so many.
John graduated from San Jacinto High School and continued his education at the University of Houston. He went on to build a long and successful career in Sales and Marketing, ultimately retiring as the Director of Marketing at Stanley Aviation—a role he held with great pride.
John is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Donna Rainey, who was his partner, confidante, and greatest joy.
He leaves behind his daughters Debra Grabowski and Lori Tanner (John), as well as Lisa Gates (Brad), Eddy Lenggenhager (Julie), and Steven Lenggenhager, whom he loved and embraced wholeheartedly as his own.
"Papa"/"Papa John" as he was affectionately called will be deeply missed by his grandchildren—Samantha, Ashley, Eddy, Taylor, Jacob, Ethan, Lauren, Myla, and Kelbi—and his great‑grandchildren—Kairi, Parker, Jaxson, and Liliana—each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lois Rainey, and his son‑in‑law, Dave Grabowski, husband of Debra.
John was a man who never met a stranger and always had a story ready—often one his family had heard many times before, but always delivered with the same enthusiasm. He cherished family gatherings, especially during the holidays, and found joy in golfing, playing dominoes, poker, and canasta. His humor, warmth, and unmistakable presence will be remembered by all who knew him.
John’s legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and the memories he created with them. His life was a testament to loyalty, generosity, and the simple joy of being together.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider making a donation to St. Jude Hospital in honor of John.
