

Josephine (Jo) Friend passed away on December 16th at her home in Dallas surrounded by her family. Jo was born on February 20, 1929 in a sod hut on her family’s farm near Park, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Katherine Haffner, her husband Bob Friend, her sisters Dorothy, Ann and Ludy, her brothers Anthony, Joseph and Raymond Jr., and her long time companion Don Pitzer. She is survived by her two sisters Barbara Fahey of Denver, Colorado and Theresa Addlefinger of Nebraska,brother-in-laws Herbert Fahey and Anthony Wilderman. She is also survived by three daughters Linda and husband Larry Schmitt of Dallas, Marcia and husband Steve Meleleu of Garland, and Karla and husband Rick Ornelaz of Santa Ana, California.
Jo lived the early parts of her life in Kansas and California, then later moved to Dallas to be with many of her family members. Jo worked in retail for several years and volunteered at the Richardson Senior Center. She had a lot of fun with the local Red Hatters. Primarily to all of us, she was Grandma Jo who loved her eight grandchildren (Todd Schmitt and wife Lisa, Julie Schmitt, Jamie Lauersdorf and husband Victor, Robert Meleleu and wife Amanda, Chris Mueller, Brian Mueller and wife Vida, Ricky Ornelaz, and Jeff Mueller and wife Danielle) and seven great-grandchildren (Brianna Ornelaz, Jacob Mueller, William Schmitt, Evan Schmitt, Emma Mueller, Victor Lauersdorf and Cambria Mueller)
Mom was a very loving and giving person to all of her family and many friends. We will all miss her sweet smile.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 20, 2010 at 10:30 am at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mom's Great Grand baby, Cambria Mueller (1 years old) for her continued health care. She has Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
