Marcia Davis Hansen, 80, of Plano, Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024. She was born on October 6, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Keith & Rosemary (Bradley) Davis. Marcia was a 1961 graduate of North Central High School in Indianapolis, where she was a majorette. She then attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 1963, Marcia was honored to be a Princess in the Indy 500 parade and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She began her teaching career at Spencer Elementary, where she taught for 3 years while working on her Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University. In early 1968, while at IU, her first daughter, Julie, was born. Marcia returned to Indianapolis and two years later in early 1970, her second daughter, Cindy, was born. During this time, she taught Fourth Grade at Crestview Elementary and one of her greatest joys was learning that students and parents would request to have Marcia as their teacher. In 1973, while attending a singles’ gathering, she met Keith Hansen, and the two soon began dating. Marcia later married Keith on February 14, 1975, which was just the beginning of a beautiful adventure of life they would enjoy together.
In 1976, Keith’s work with Procter & Gamble brought Marcia, Julie and Cindy to Freehold, New Jersey, where Marcia was a substitute teacher. They lived there for 4.5 years before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio for a year. In 1982, they made their final move while the girls were still in school to Plano, Texas. Marcia worked at Sun Play Pools in Plano for many years and then later worked as a merchandiser for Jockey until she retired in 1995. Her two maternal aunts, Janet and Pat, had both recently relocated to Plano, Texas, to be closer to their surviving family members. Marcia’s retirement coincided with this move, allowing her the opportunity to spend time with and support her aunts, as well as taking on her new role as Nana to her first grandchild.
Marcia was someone that simply enjoyed life. She was witty and had a wonderful sense of humor. Marcia always had a smile on her face, regardless of what was going on in her life. She was a magnet that attracted others and, with her charming and warm personality, she always found a connection to everyone she met. Marcia valued people and building relationships. On that note, she enjoyed keeping a busy schedule. Marcia enjoyed reading, puzzles - like crossword and Sudoku, and playing games with her kids and grandchildren. She was always cooking (enough to feed an army!) and was always prepared to feed whoever showed up to her home. In her later years, she enjoyed dining out, especially at Craftway Kitchen and Steve Fields. Marcia was a Life Master Bridge Player, who enjoyed playing socially with friends and competitively. She valued her faith and was a longtime member of the Reformed Church of Plano, where she served on many fellowship committees and was a youth leader. Marcia even held Bible studies in her neighborhood to share her faith with others. Most recently, she attended Grace Presbyterian Church in Plano. Marcia was also actively involved in Plano Santas and the Philanthropic Education Organization.
More than anything, Marcia loved her family. Being a wife to Keith, a mom to Julie and Cindy, and Nana to her 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, brought her a true contentment that couldn’t be found elsewhere. Marcia cherished her time spent with them, supporting them, and encouraging them. She enjoyed traveling with her family and she sailed on nearly 40 cruises with Keith. Marcia had a love for exploring the world through international travel, and was especially fond of Africa. She loved making memories on family vacations with her kids and grandkids as well. Marcia will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her and she leaves a legacy of devotion and gratefulness that will be treasured for years to come.
In addition to her parents, Marcia was preceded in death by her two aunts, Janet Breece and Pat Wood. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Keith Hansen; daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Roland Ball of Prosper, Texas, and Cindy and Jeff Rice of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Reagan (Alaina) Ball, Reese Ball, Riley Ball, Brianna (Grayson) Morgan, and Cameron Rice; three great-grandchildren, Elijah Ball, Blair Morgan, and Hollis Morgan; one expected great-grandchild; and brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Margaret Davis of Zionsville, Indiana.
