Mart was born in Dallas County and grew up in the Oak Cliff area. He graduated from Sunset High School in 1953. He loved all sports and participated in football and track and as he stated, he was pretty good, especially in track. He later graduated from SMU and soon after obtained his CPA certification.
Mart started his career with the Parrish Murrell Company in Dallas and later, with fellow accountants, formed the firm of Judd, Thomas, Beasley, & Smith, Certified Public Accountants, along with Bill Shamburger, Jr. as an associate, in July of 1976. He was extremely proud of the firm and it's reputation, which put them on the list of The Best Companies to Work for in Dallas.
Among other talents of Mart, was his hunting and fishing. He enjoyed every season with travels to South Dakota and Kansa for pheasant hunting and West Texas for whatever flies, quail, dove, ducks. He loved fishing and fished the local lakes, Texas gulf coast, and also ventured into Mexico.
Mart was not a veteran, but did have family veterans. He admired and respected the veterans to the point of watching and listening on the internet to retired veterans tell their personal stories of active duty during WWII. They are true tough stories.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mart Matthew Thomas, III, and his parents, Mart Sr. and Earle Thomas. Mart is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty, his two Labradors, Boomer and Rico, his daughter Debbie, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews and many friends in business, the Bison group from Sunset High School, and hunting and fishing buddies and his fantastic neighbors.
