Mary Ann was born on September 26th, 1945 to Troy and Nannie Mary Duran in Henderson, TX. Upon graduating from Henderson High School in 1964, she went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from the University of Texas.
In 1965, while still attending the University of Texas, Mary Ann was introduced to Larry Guinn through a mutual family friend in Henderson, TX. Larry was also raised in Henderson, TX and a graduate from Henderson High School, 2 years before Mary Ann. They immediately hit it off and married 2 years later on June 3rd, 1967. They were faithfully and happily married for over 53 years. Upon her college graduation in 1967 and a short stint living in Texarkana, they settled in Plano, TX where she would spend the rest of her life. Together, they share a daughter and a son. Their first child, Lacey, was born in 1972 and their second child, Wesley, was born in 1980.
Mary Ann was a faithful servant and this was portrayed by her tireless dedication to her Christian faith, her family, and her teaching career. She was a member at First Baptist Church in Plano, TX for over 50 years. During this time, she was active in the church teaching elementary Sunday school, vacation bible school, and also served as Chairwoman for the Grief Committee which provided support to church members coping with the death of loved ones. Mary Ann could often be found, usually early in the morning, reading and studying while making notes in her Bible.
Mary Ann was a loving and wonderfully supportive mother. While her children were younger, she supported both of them in their athletic and educational endeavors. As her children grew older and eventually married, Mary Ann’s family expanded to include a son in law, Chris Feris, and a daughter in law, Beth Guinn. Eventually, Mary Ann became a wonderful grandmother to 4 beautiful grandchildren whom she loved and cherished; Colby Feris, Kaley Feris, Caroline Guinn, and Claire Guinn.
After her college graduation, Mary Ann took a position as a teacher for Sigler Elementary in Plano, TX, where she would continue for the entirety of her 31 year teaching career. Mary Ann was an excellent teacher and was named “Sigler Teacher of the Year” in 1988. Our family has many fond memories, while in a public or social setting, of former students approaching her years after she taught them in school, and sharing the positive impact she had on their lives.
Mary Ann was passionate about music, especially the piano, which she played frequently. She loved to cook while she gathered with family and friends. Larry and Mary Ann enjoyed going to movies together, attending basketball games, and traveling. Her positive attitude, kind nature, quiet strength, and infectious smile and laugh will be missed greatly.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband (Larry Guinn - Plano), her two children and their spouses (Lacey & Chris Feris-Hurst and Wesley & Beth Guinn – Richardson), her sister (Nancy Kelly – Deer Park) and four grandchildren (Colby Feris, Kaley Feris, Caroline Guinn, and Claire Guinn). Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, (Troy Duran), her mother (Nannie Mary), and her brother (Joseph Duran).
