With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Randolph “Randy” Russell Weaver, cherished husband, devoted father, and adored grandfather on July 10, 2023. He was surrounded by his family as he transitioned and passed peacefully knowing how completely loved he was.
Randy was born to Robert E. Weaver and Eugenia S. Weaver on April 27th, 1941, and was raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended Vanderbilt University and the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He graduated in 1973 with a degree in Electrical Engineering with his Professional Engineering license. He later earned his Master of Business Administration at the University of Texas, Dallas.
Randy served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966 with the rank of E5 Staff Sergeant. He received basic training and completed Crypto Tech School at Lackland Air Force Base. He was then stationed in Japan, Vietnam, and Korea, and assigned to the operation of electronic intelligence information systems.
Randy married his soulmate Diane in 1970 after he met her by chance in Iran. Struck by love at first sight, they were engaged just three days after meeting each other. Together they had three children: Emily, Justin, and Alex.
His professional career took him all over the world, beginning in Richardson, Texas at Collins Radio from 1973 to 1978, with one year in between to work in Saudi Arabia. From 1978 to 1991, he worked for the Arabian-American oil company, Aramco, in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia until his early retirement. He and his family moved back to Texas where he worked as an independent consultant and earned his MBA. He was a contractor for General Electric Houston from 2010 to 2011 and finished out his engineering career working for Burns and McDonnell in Houston from 2012 to 2016
Randy loved to travel. He traveled with his family all around the world, from Europe to Asia to Australia to Scandinavia. He had a passion for learning languages and spoke fluent Japanese and Mandarin Chinese as well as conversational Farsi, Arabic, Pashto, and Spanish. He loved to read about history, wars, the far east, cultures, nature, and physics theories and had an incredible memory like an encyclopedia to hold it all.
Randy will be remembered for a myriad of wonderful qualities: his incredible sense of humor which stayed with him to the end, his unending support for his family during difficult times, his integrity, solid work ethic, and intelligence, his love for his children and the desire to give them incredible life experiences and support, and the beautiful loving relationships he built with his three grandchildren. Most of all, Randy will be remembered for being a hopeless romantic and his unwavering devotion to his beloved wife, Diane. They shared a profound bond as soulmates and shared a life together, building 53 years’ worth of memories.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eugenia Weaver.
He is survived by his wife Diane M. Weaver, his children, Alex Weaver, Justin and Laura Weaver, and Emily and Patrick Verhoeven. His legacy will live on in his three grandchildren, Erik, Katie, and Reagan.
Randy’s memory will live in our hearts forever. He made countless people smile and laugh and was deeply loving and kind to all. We have lost the patriarch of our family and we will never be the same, but his memory will stay in our hearts forever. We will miss our Husband, Dad, and Grandpa always.
A private military service and burial will be held for family only at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2 P.M. on September 15th, 2023.
