Robert Eugene Goff was born an only child on October 27, 1922 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Alfred and Lena Miller Goff. Bob Goff departed this life June 7, 2014 at the age of 91 years, 7 months, and 11 days. After finishing high school in San Angelo, Texas, Bob attended Oklahoma Baptist University, and then received a Bachelor of Science degree at Oklahoma University.
During WWII, when Bob was serving our country with the Marines in Okinawa and China, his parents arranged for a young music teacher named Beth Floyd to be his pen pal. It was a favorable match. Upon returning to his parents’ home in Perryton, Texas, Bob finally met Beth in person and the two were married October of 1946. They enjoyed more than 67 years together until his passing.
After the war, Bob achieved a Master of Arts degree from University of Chicago, and soon started a 37-year career with Shell Oil Co. in Employee Relations. During his retirement, Bob and Beth enjoyed residing in the Boerne and San Antonio, Texas area for 21 years. For the last 7.5 years, they lived in a Dallas retirement community, making new friends and renewing old friendships.
Bob had many interests, ranging from archaeological digs in the Channel Islands to vegetable gardening in the Texas Hill Country. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his grandchildren. Bob was well traveled, and always planning his next trip. Much of his travel focused on lakes, mountains, and National Parks in the US. They also included Canada, Mexico, Europe, Africa, New Zealand, and the Caribbean. Always by his side, wife and best friend Beth, added color, humor, and music throughout his journey.
Mr. Goff was an active volunteer with many organizations. He served for more than 50 years in Lions Club International, and more than 20 years in Girl Scouts of USA—including 6 years on the national board. He also helped found and lead the Executive Service Corps of San Antonio, and was always active in the Baptist churches he faithfully attended through the years. He would tell you that trusting Christ Jesus for his salvation was the best decision he ever made.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beth, and three children: son Robert E. Goff, Jr. of Reno, NV, daughter Cathryn Goff Nelson and her husband Camron Nelson of Dallas, TX, and son David Charles Goff and his wife Marsha Lawler Goff of Austin, TX: five grandchildren: Bethany Nelson Kerstetter married to Bradley Robertson Kerstetter, Scott Camron Nelson married to Amy Berry Nelson, Kevin Charles Goff, Kristi Lynn Goff, and Jennifer Michelle Goff. Kevin, Kristi and Jennifer are the children of David and Marsha Goff.
