Ronald Jakus

Ronald Lee Jakus, 74, passed away on August 31, 2021 in Plano, Texas. He was born on April 14, 1947 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Anthony and Marian Jakus. Ron was raised in Milwaukee and graduated from Rufus King High school in 1965 where he won the Wisconsin High School State Tumbling Championship and also proudly served as vice president of his graduating class. He later attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM) for a short time prior to beginning military service in 1967. Ron served in the United States Army as a staff sergeant for 4 years before being honorably discharged. The majority of his service was with the Army Security Agency in Frankfurt, Germany. His time in service was something that brought him great pride and many happy memories. Ron had a respectable and dedicated career with Mobil Oil (later ExxonMobil) for more than 30 years. During this time he served in a variety of roles in the Data Center for the company. He was admired by his colleagues for his work ethic, calm nature, and willingness to serve. In 1974 Mobil Oil moved Ron to Dallas, TX. He drove his 1972 Corvette, a beloved possession his family would hear about for years, down to his new life in the great state of Texas. It was here, in 1978, that he met his wife Betsy Barrett on a blind date. Almost one year to the day later, they married and had a loving marriage of nearly 42 years. Together, Ron and Betsy had one daughter, Carrie. In his spare time Ron enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, attending TCU football games and Dallas Stars hockey games, reading, creating spreadsheets, helping others, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandson Samuel. Ron’s family and friends will remember him as kind, caring, considerate, gentle, soft spoken, generous, helpful, funny, and more. There simply aren’t enough words to describe the one of a kind human being that he was. The world was truly a better place with him in it and those who were lucky enough to know him will miss him immensely. He will be best remembered as a loving and devoted husband, dad, and grandfather. These roles were what he treasured most. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Marian Jakus. He is survived by his wife Betsy, daughter Carrie Boyd and husband Matt, grandson Samuel, sister Jackie Leistikow and husband Jim, brother Rick Jakus and wife Dana, sister Sandy Olbrys, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
