

Roy Gene Helton, age 82, of Plano passed away peacefully at his residence after a long illness of Alzheimer’s on December 1, 2014. Roy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jan, by his son Clint and his wife Tabatha Helton of Frisco, TX, by his daughter Robin and her husband Fouad Znaidi of Frisco, TX, and by his grandchildren Drew Hickman and Madison Helton, and his sister Betty Warren.
Roy was born in Fort Worth Texas, the son of Ross Lee Helton and Lola Helton. He graduated from Pascal High school, and attended Texas Christian University & Arlington College. Roy enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably. While in the service Roy served as an MP, PFC in Germany. After completing his military service, Roy returned to civilian life and was employed by Texas Instruments, General Dynamics, All Plastics, Johnson Controls and Rockwell International for 30 years as a System Mechanical Engineer. During his career he worked abroad in Iran, Libya and Turkey. He helped design and build a Mass-Spectrometer for the Apollo 17 Moon Landing. Design Engineer on a transportable HF/AM Radio Shelter. He was the Mechanical Engineer for the Tacamo Project, a Communication System on a Navy Jet.
Roy’s favorite hobbies included fishing the many lakes of Texas, hunting South Texas deer, camping with his family on many summer vacation trips and visiting the Hawaii and Virgin Islands.
Roy, who loved the Lord was a loving husband, doting father and reliable friend, will be missed greatly.
