She was born on November 24, 1935 and grew up in Lubbock, Texas to Geraldine and John Caldwell. She attended Texas Tech University where she was crowned as a beauty queen in 1955. She worked in many roles over the years including secretary for the mayor of Lubbock, a small business owner, wedding planner, church administrative assistant, and amateur baker (which her grandsons greatly appreciated).
Shirley had a deep and abiding love for the simple beauties of life—especially the color pink, the joy of flowers in bloom, and the warm kisses of dogs. Her heart was rooted in her faith, and she found great comfort and purpose in her church, music, and her unwavering belief in Jesus as her Savior. Her life was a reflection of that faith, shown through her kindness, generosity, and her passion for helping others.
She was a devoted and loving spouse to her husband, Jerry, who she met while at a divorce recovery retreat with Prestonwood Baptist Church. They were a match made in heaven and shared over 30 years of marriage filled with cherished memories. She was a proud and caring mother to her daughter, Mickay Minnie of Dallas, her son Scott Hackfield and his wife Sandra of Weatherford, TX, and stepdaughter Meagan Stone and partner James of Memphis, TN. She loved her grandchildren, Ryan Minnie and his wife Amanda, and William Minnie and his wife Erin, and step-grandchildren Stephan, Johnathan, and Paige, and many great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
She was preceded in death by her parents Geraldine and John Caldwell and twin sisters Mickey and McKayla who died tragically with their mother in a car wreck.
Those who knew Shirley will remember her warm heart and the way she made others feel seen and loved. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will be treasured by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, May 8th at Faith Chapel at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, TX. Visitation will be at 9:15AM prior to the service. Light refreshments will be served in the Fireside Room following the service.
