

Sue Eriksson of Garland passed away in early March in Dallas. She was 83 years old. Sue was born in Kenton, Ohio, May 22, 1938 to Harold W. Smith and Gladys Irene (Daum) Smith. She lived in Garland for the last 51 years.
Sue outlived three husbands and had two children, five step-children and seven grandchildren. She was an avid fan of Ohio sports teams, particularly the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, as well as the Dallas Stars. She loved her family, her pets and she liked to sing and travel. While in high school she was a member of the Kenton High School Wildcat band under the direction of Bill Moffitt. Combining her interest in music and sports, a highlight of her high school days was when the band performed at halftime at a Cleveland Browns game in November 1955. She graduated from Kenton High School in 1956.
She married John Jacob Weist of LaRue, Ohio in December 1958. They had two sons and moved several times as a result of John’s work with the Erie Railroad, living in Niles and Columbus, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Buffalo, New York and Dallas before settling in Garland in 1971.
John J Weist passed away in July 1972. She married Fernando Troncoso in 1973, separating 18 years later. She married Richard Eriksson on her mother’s 75th birthday in Kenton in September 1993. Richard died of Alzheimer’s in March 2014.
Sue survived tuberculosis as a child and worked most of her life in Texas, first for a Methodist church, Weight Watchers and then several hi-tech companies involved in the sale and reclamation of silicon wafers. She retired in 2005 from Nova Electronic Materials. She has been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garland since 1994.
Sue is survived by sons John Harold Weist (Laura) of Arlington and Gerald Bradley Weist of Garland, step-daughter Victoria Corkidi of Garland and stepson Magnus Eriksson (Kathy) of Durant, OK, stepdaughter-in-law Tere Anaya Troncoso of Carrollton, and stepdaughter-in-law Alicia Troncoso of Austin; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, one niece and her family in Asheville, Ohio and several nieces and nephews of the Weist family in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and California.
In lieu of flowers, Sue requested that donations be made in her name to the Terrell Animal Alliance, 13802 Sarah Lane, Terrell, TX 75161, or the American Cancer Society.
