December 23, 1942 – March 19, 2025
On March 19, 2025, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer, Suzanne Elaine Wind was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her beloved husband, Bill, was faithfully by her side.
“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:1
Suzanne was born on December 23, 1942, in Long Beach, California, to Virgil Wright and Betty Lamb. Tragically, her mother passed away at Suzanne’s birth, and she was lovingly raised by her father, grandmother, and uncles. Even from a young age, Suzanne’s strength, warmth, and vibrant spirit were evident.
In the third grade in Artesia, California, Suzanne formed a friendship with three girls that blossomed into a lifelong bond—one of the many ways she demonstrated her deep capacity for love and connection. She graduated from Artesia High School in 1962 and began working as a legal secretary for the Long Beach District Attorney’s office. Her notes, always filled with her unique shorthand, remain a mystery and a cherished reminder of her quick wit and intellect.
Suzanne was married to Charles Lyon for over twenty years, and together they were blessed with a son, John, in 1972. Though that chapter closed in 1991, Suzanne entered a new season of resilience and growth. She returned to the workforce as an administrative assistant at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, working closely with British Aerospace.
It was through her cherished childhood friends that Suzanne met the love of her life, Bill Wind, in 1995. They married on June 1, 1996, beginning a beautiful journey together. For 22 years, they made their home in Placentia, California, and found spiritual nourishment and fellowship at Calvary Chapel East Anaheim. Sunday mornings were sacred, as they continued to worship together—later tuning in online when distance required. Suzanne actively participated in women’s Bible study and often served as a small group leader, guiding others with wisdom and grace.
In 2018, Suzanne and Bill moved to North Texas to be closer to their grandchildren. They made Highland Springs their home and embraced their new community with open arms. Suzanne quickly became a cornerstone of her neighborhood, forming a Monday morning Bible study group at Twin Oaks Square and leading it for several years. Her radiant personality and genuine kindness touched the lives of so many around her.
Suzanne is survived by her devoted husband of 28 years, Bill Wind; her son, John Lyon, step daughter JoAnn Compton and her husband, Scott; step daughter Carlye Fry and her husband, Brandon. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jacob Compton, Victoria Compton, and Hudson Fry.
Her faith, love, and unwavering strength will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.”
— Psalm 55:22
