Born on February 9, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, Tom was the beloved son of James and Wilma Snyder. Raised in the small town of Mitchellville, Iowa, he developed a strong sense of faith, community and a commitment to hard work that would guide him throughout his life.
After completing his high school education, Tom pursued higher learning, earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa and later obtaining a master’s degree from Truman State University. His academic journey laid the foundation for a successful career and his lifelong passion for education and mentorship.
In 1968, Tom married the love of his life, Janet. Together, they raised two daughters, Jamie and Jill, to whom he devoted his life. Tom was a firm believer in the power of education and opportunity, always striving to provide his family with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to succeed. Whether through offering guidance, sharing life lessons, or ensuring financial stability, he made it his mission to empower others and help them realize their potential.
Tom’s devotion to his family extended beyond just his daughters and their husbands, Todd and Stephen. He was an incredibly proud and engaged grandfather. He found immense joy in watching his six grandchildren—Gracen, Griffin, and Ryan Fisk of Cypress, TX, and Will, James, and Macy Stimson of Lorena, TX—grow, excel, and pursue their passions. Whether cheering them on at sporting events, attending their school performances, or simply sharing in their everyday triumphs, Tom was their most dedicated supporter.
In addition to his deep love for his family, Tom was an avid golfer. The time spent on the golf course with his friends brought him great joy, not only for the sport itself but also for the camaraderie and laughter it provided. His sense of humor, infectious laughter, and genuine kindness will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Tom was a man of faith, integrity, compassion, and generosity. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and steadfast friend. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the many memories of his love, encouragement, and support.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Wilma Snyder.
