

Mr. Toan was born a second son on December 30, 1931 in Ha Dong, a province outside Ha Noi, Vietnam. He had a normal childhood, going to school and having fun with his older and younger brothers.
When the Accords of the 1954 Geneva Conference divided Vietnam, Mr. Toan moved with his siblings to the South Vietnam. There, he graduated the Thu Duc South Vietnam Military Academy as a Second Lieutenant.
Mr. Toan met his wife of 47 years in Nha Trang in 1958, courted her, and asked her to marry him before he left for New York for a six months military training. They married in May 1960 and, welcomed their daughter a year later, who was followed by four more sons.
When South Vietnam fell to the Communist regime in 1975, Mr. Toan, then ranked Major, and a commander of more than 300 soldiers, along with most of the South Vietnam military personel, were forced to the new government’s “re-education camp”, where he was held for almost 4 years.Mr. Toan and his family arrived in Texas in 1979; all have been here ever since.
Mr. Toan, the family’s patriarch, was predeceased by his wife Oanh Dao, who died in 2007. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, four sons and their spouses, seven grand-children and one great-grandson.
He loved books, movies, and music. He also loved watching sports; his favorites were football, soccer, tennis, and basketball games. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Mr. Toan gave to many charities, both in the United States and in Vietnam. He felt that having been blessed in his life, he needed to help others.
Mr. Toan is now at peace and will be forever missed.

A witness cremation will occur Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:20 PM, 7990 President George Bush Tpke, Dallas, TX 75252.
