Arthur Gene Ruiz

Arthur Gene Ruiz, affectionately known as Tío Tury to family and Art by friends, passed away in Bakersfield, Ca on February 2, 2024. Born on October 22, 1946 in Tulare, Ca to Leopoldo Ruiz (deceased) and Manuela (Nelly) Ruiz (deceased). He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Maria de Los Angeles Ruiz. Art and Maria were married on July 7, 1973, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2023 surrounded by family and friends. Art’s early years were spent in the company of his siblings, brother Leopoldo Ruiz II (deceased), and sisters Maria Gaona, and Francis Coburn, where they forged a bond that would last a lifetime. Tio Tury is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

After graduating from Delano High School in 1964, he attended Barber College and graduated in 1965. In 1966 he enlisted in the Army and served in Vietnam being honorably discharged in 1968. After his military discharge, he returned to Delano and began his career as a barber. He went on to serve the community of Delano as a barber and friend for over 50 years.

Art was a pillar of the Delano community, known for his generous spirit, love of travel, football, Nascar and above all else family. He was truly one of a kind and loved by many. He will be deeply missed.
