Gerardo Tagala Labrador, of Delano, California, passed away on January 4, 2026, at the age of 70. Known for being thoughtful, hard-working, quiet, loyal, and care-free, he was a beloved member of his community.
Born on July 26, 1955, Gerardo received some high school education. He dedicated much of his life to working as a farm laborer in the grape fields and also participated in the King Crab Leg trade in Alaska.
He was a devoted family man. Gerardo is survived by his son, Reagan Labrador. His siblings, Leticia Calantes, Cary Dela Cruz, Julie Rogel, Ernesto Labrador, and Feliza Sarabia, also mourn his passing.
In his earlier years, Gerardo enjoyed watching Filipino cockfights. Throughout his life, he was passionate about playing cards (pusoy), enjoying mahjong, and visiting the casino. His quiet nature and steady resilience were defining aspects of his character. Gerardo lived life to the best of his abilities, never seeking wealth or status but deeply understanding the value of a day well-lived and treasuring life's simple moments.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the many dedicated professionals who supported Gerardo throughout his health journey. Special thanks are given to United Health Care Center in Earlimart and the specialized care teams in Bakersfield: Dr. Capote at Kern Vascular Center, Dr. Naijar at Comprehensive Cardiovascular, and cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Purewal at Adventist Health.
In his final days, Gerardo left his family with a simple yet profound command: "Always be happy!" It was a gentle reminder to pause, practice gratitude, and cherish the small, beautiful moments in life we so often overlook.
