Gilbert was born on February 10, 1929 in Visalia, CA. to Francisco and Micaela Caraveo. Gilbert served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on April 26, 1949.
On January 28, 1950 he marries the love of his life, Alice Miranda Caraveo, they were married for 71 years, and together they raised nine children.
Gilbert Served as a member of the City of Delano Planning Commission, and also as President of the Sociedad Edad de Oro for many years.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Alice Caraveo; his daughter Norma Caraveo; his daughter Roberta Blecha (Frank Blecha); his son Gilbert Caraveo Jr.; his daughter Olivia Caraveo; his daughter Diana Valdez (Randy Valdez); his daughter Corina Ruiz (Richard Ruiz); his daughter Maria Rodriguez; and his daughter Michelle Caraveo; his sister Perla Rivera, his sister Ernestine (Billie) Armas and his brother Frank Caraveo Jr..
Gilbert was preceded in death by his son John Caraveo Sr.; his father Francisco Caraveo and his mother Micaela Caraveo; his brother Alfred Caraveo; his brother Everett Caraveo; his brother Arthur Caraveo; his brother Richard Caraveo; his brother Manuel Caraveo; his brother Miguel Caraveo; his sister Dolores Caraveo Villegas and his sister Margaret Perez-Leon; his granddaughter Daina Caraveo, and his grandson Adrian Dewayne Caraveo-Pimpton.
He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren to cherish his memories.
