She was born in DeQuincy, La in 1931 to Lonix and Stella Boyer. Dorothy was married to JD Franks for 65 years before his death in 2013. She was a member of the DeQuincy Church of Christ where she taught bible class for many years. Dorothy took great joy as a stay at home mother raising her five children. In her role as a Christian mother she taught her children the importance of hard work and Christian values. Many in the community have memories of purchasing eggs at the Franks Farm in Oretta where Dorothy and her children worked a small chicken farm for several years. She loved animals and often took in homeless “critters” of all kinds to include a skunk. Dorothy worked tirelessly for years researching family genealogy for which she felt a great passion. She produced two books which her family treasures. Dorothy was known by many as quite the prankster. She loved to laugh and brought laughter to many. We will miss her laughter.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband JD Franks, her parents Lonix and Stella Mae Boyer, brothers Will and Francis (Buttons) Boyer and great grand-daughter Sarah Manuel.
She is survived by three brothers George, David and Rodney Boyer of Fields La; two sisters, JoAnn Young and Anice Israel of Lake Charles, La. Her children Johnny Franks and wife Kathryn of Hemphill, Tx, Joey Franks and wife Teresa of DeQuincy, La, Ray Franks and wife Donna of DeQuincy, La, Donna Manuel and husband Daniel of Many, La, Marty Franks of Oretta, La, daughter in-law Karla Kinny of Merryville, La; eleven grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren
