

She was born April 7, 1927 in DeQuincy to Tom and Grace Kellogg Robinson and graduated from DeQuincy High School in 1944. She was married to Allen Spears for 65 years. She was a lifelong member of the First United Pentecostal Church and became Sunday school secretary and church pianist from 1941 until the time of her passing. Gene faithfully attended church services and had over 65 years of perfect attendance in Sunday school. She generously supported her church, missions and other Christian and community causes.
Gene loved gardening, canning, quilting, making bread and having friends and family drop by to eat. She loved life and blessed many people with her giving spirit. No one left her home empty handed. Her many piano students brought special joy to her life. She enjoyed traveling at home and abroad.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; her step-mother Mattie Royer Robinson; and her sister, Tommie Linn Abdalla. Survivors who will deeply miss her include her sister, Evelyn Langford; brother-in-law, Abraham Abdalla; niece, Rhonda Langford Self and husband Don; nephews, Rick Langford, Jonathan Abdalla and wife Melissa, David Abdalla and wife Kathy, and Daniel Abdalla and wife Liz; 9 great nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Iris Buford.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2012 at The First United Pentecostal Church. Rev. Carlton Jackson, Rev. P.D. Buford and Rev. T.D. Cardwell will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday, December 16, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy and will resume Monday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
