

DeQuincy - James S. "Chief" Thompson, 84, died on January 10, 2012, in a local hospital.
James was born December 23, 1927 as an only child to Samuel and Verlie Thompson. He was a resident of DeQuincy and a graduate of the DeQuincy High School Class of 1945. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. James worked for 23 years at Cities Service. He was a U.S. Merchant Marine and a retired pipefitter from Local 106 where he was a business agent for the Local. He was also a Law Enforcement Officer for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Department for 20 years. He was the Chief of Police for the City of DeQuincy from 1986-1989. He loved hunting and the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lela Perry Thompson, and his grandson Justin Yellott.
Survivors include his son, James S. Thompson, Jr. and wife Rhonda of DeQuincy; daughters, Norma Jean Patterson and husband, Lynn Dale and Carol Louise Yellott, both of DeQuincy; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 13, in Bible Baptist Church of Dequincy. The Rev. Alvin Dale Smith and the Rev. Chris Jeffus will officiate. Burial will be in McFatter Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday from 9-1 p.m., all at the funeral home.
