Mrs. Clifton was a precious lady. Kind and giving to all her new her. Great mom who loved her children and a selfless servant. ❤️ never forgotten.

Lenses I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was a very sweet lady. Sending prayers of comfort for you and the family for the days to come. Take comfort in knowing that she is in heaven with Jesus. 

We extend our sincere sympathy .  It is so very heartwarming  to read the tributes of the family who loved her so very much.   What happy memories to have of a fine woman .  It was our  pleasure to know her.    

Lenise, so sorry to hear of your moms passing. Wanted to be in DQ  Sunday for her service, but my mom had a serious fall Friday. Mrs. Clifton was a beautiful lady and a great encouragement to me in days pass. Always enjoyed  her laugh and dressing her beautiful hair. I know  she will be missed by you and her wonderful family! Praying for you all! ❤️ 

Maw Maw and Paw Paw's visits North Carolina always felt magical. I remember sneaking out of my room at night to squeeze into the twin bed and cuddle with Maw Maw (and she would always let me). Her move up to Chapel Hill was such a blessing and I am so grateful to have had her with me growing up. 

My Great Aunt Lena  and Uncle Robert were my surrogate grandparents on the Clifton side. I spent childhood summers with them in DeQuincy and at their lake camp during the 90s. They were the closest degree to my Clifton grandparents and I thoroughly enjoyed their firsthand accounts of my PawPaw Hilbert and Nana Nadie, whom I never knew. 

A few notable stories: waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of my Uncle Robert dispatching  a noisy possum…with a shovel…outside my bedroom window; writing a ‘sorry note’ with a $5 bill taped to it (notably the last of my spending money) for breaking their boat paddle (Yes, Lance co-signed…100% my fault);  Aunt Lena’s wonderful cooking and the smell it sent through their house; Uncle Robert’s afternoon naps and the fresh coffee Aunt Lena had waiting for him; their unexplained affection for Buicks; all-you-can-eat blueberries from the backyard bushes; their signature laughs that came from the heart; and the uncompromising love I felt from them every time we visited.  They were supportive, loving, and kind people.

Aunt Lena (or as Uncle Robert called her, “Beau”) was blessed with a long life and I’m so thankful that she’s reunited with her loved ones, especially her Robert. I’m grateful for the time spent with, lessons learned from, laughs shared amongst, and memories made with them both.

When I was a little boy, I wanted to be my Uncle Robert … mostly because he was the guy who was married to my Aunt Lena. When I was a teenager, she was my confidant. When I wanted to ask my college sweetheart to marry me, it was Aunt Lena that I told first. She helped teach me how to read, how to play games, and how to cook. She modeled for me what deep and abiding faith looks like, faith in God and faith in other people. She and Uncle Robert were my favorite people and I loved visiting their home and even more when they showed up unexpectedly at our home for a visit. I will miss their laughs - unique and loud and infectious. She was - and this is not hyperbole - as good and kind  a person as I have ever known. Well done good and faithful servant.

We loved Lena and thought of her as family. Our holidays with her were some of our fondest memories. She taught us all to appreciate games, pie, laughter and love. She will always be in our hearts   💕
