Noah Smith Jr.

Noah Smith, Jr, 91, of DeQuincy went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at his residence. He was born on April 29, 1930 in Orangefield, Texas to his late parents, Eva and Noah Smith, Sr; he was the second of five boys. His family moved soon after his birth to DeQuincy, where he spent his childhood days.

He was a member of the DHS Class of 1948, where he played football. He joined the United States Army, where he proudly served his country. Going into the ready reserves in 1950, he worked for the Alaskan Railroad, owned by the government, which is the area where his family had settled. When he returned to Louisiana, he collected the other part of his life: his highschool sweetheart, Alma Ruth Dunham. They were married on July 2, 1950.

He and his wife welcomed their daughter, Teresa Jo, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, then their son, William Dalton decided to be born in Louisiana while Mom and Teresa Jo were visiting family in DeQuincy. While in Alaska, Noah served as umpire for the Youth Baseball league. He loved fishing for Salmon and Eulachon, and sometimes riding the train to a creek or a river. He worked several places when he returned to Louisiana after 10 years in Alaska. His permanent job, however, was at Goodyear Chemical in Beaumont where he worked as a maintenance mechanic.

After moving to DeQuincy, he became a Coach for Dixie Youth, which he loved. He wanted all the kids to have a great time. He was also a Boy Scout leader, and would help the scouts get to and from camp, which allowed them to play ball. He never missed a football game, if he could help it. County music was another passion of his, and he had a vast record collection, tapes, and CDs. He enjoyed traveling to Europe, Nashville, Hot Springs, Branson, Eureka Springs, and Orlando.

Noah was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in DeQuincy for many years, where he later served as a Deacon. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, who he loved very much.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy, on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 11:00am, with Bro. Gil Arthur officiating. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy on Thursday, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Visitation will resume at the church on Friday, from 9:00am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Perkins Cemetery.
