Cheryl Anne Bupp

On September 22, 2025, Cheryl Anne Bupp passed away, surrounded by members of her family and Clarice, a special family friend who stepped in when Cheryl needed a guiding light at a critical time of great loss to her.

Born in Wayzata MN, March 21, 1947, Cheryl was the youngest of a family of five. She graduated from Wayzata High School, attended the University of Minnesota, Ferris State University, and graduated from Central Michigan University.

She married William F. Bupp on February 17, 1968, in Big Rapids, MI, on a freezing snowy day. She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn Charmichael Clark, and Forest Fields Clark; brother Tom/Tommy Clark; sister Sandra Clark Bruer; brother-in-law Roger Bruer; and son Nathan William Bupp.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, William F. Bupp—DeWitt, MI; children Heather (Matt) Robinson—Ann Arbor, MI; Jessica (Lonnie) Allen—Troy, MI; Thomas (Kristen) Bupp—Waxhaw, NC; and Shelby (Kyle) Crockett—Birmingham, MI; grandchildren Sydney Bupp, Sophie Allen, Brady Bupp, Sage Allen, Samantha Allen, Nathan Crockett, Evelyn Crockett, Anneke (Cory), Oslin, Jay (Marc) Robinson and Schuyler (Drew) Robinson; and great grandchildren, Otto and Lorna Oslin. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Linda (Robert) Florian—Grand Ledge, MI and Rosalie Marks—Battle Creek, MI. In addition, many nephews and nieces mourn her passing.

A resolute mom, Cheryl’s early married life concentrated on raising “good” kids, nurturing her garden, canning, baking—especially Christmas cookies—golf, bridge, euchre and attending little league everything. In 1984, the family added a cottage to the mix. The result was Cheryl now managed two households. Friends were always welcome at home, on the deck, and around the cottage table and campfire.

Cheryl supported Bill’s career in every way, even moving the family to the Lansing area in 1987. In 1985, Cheryl dusted off her Spanish degree to serve the Secretary of State Office in Alma. That decision began a career in Community Health for the State of Michigan that led her to administrative positions within State. She was a sought-after expert in Medicaid issues. After her 2016 retirement (on a Friday), she immediately began a career with the Michigan Association of Health Plans (on the following Monday) and that was the frosting on an already successful community health career.

Among her favorites were Christmas where she masterfully directed tree lighting and supervised cookie-baking; making squash; relaxing on the pontoon with a cold Miller Lite; euchre with her neighborhood Euchre group; “Silent Night,” traveling from Seoul to Germany to Portugal and beyond; watching grandchildren perform in choir, on stage or in any sporting venue. She loved tailgates, Neil Diamond, Christmas Eve, watching theatre and sports of all genres, Family gatherings, Holiday meals. And finally, she enjoyed the many dear friends she gathered along the way, especially at the Holiday Parties she hosted for over two decades.

Facebook comments confirm that Cheryl was many things to many people—holding her title as “Spouse, Mother, Grandmother, Friend” more than anything else. Cheryl lived a life of purpose, generosity, and friendship. She was a giver, a contributor, a peacemaker.

A celebration of Cheryl's life will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Peacock Road Family Farm, 11854 Peacock Road, Laingsburg, MI 48848, peacockrff.com, a memorial to remember Cheryl will begin at 12:00 PM, with a one-hour prior family visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Following the memorial, break bread with the family at 1:00 PM and at 2:00 PM, celebrate Cheryl with friends and family. This is a casual dress event: red was Cheryl's favorite color.
