David Edward Holtham, age 83, passed away April 24, 2021. He was born March 22, 1938 in Detroit, MI to Edith (St. Louis) and Robert Holtham of St. Ignace MI. He grew up in St. Ignace and graduated from LaSalle High School where he excelled in sports. He married the love of his life, Rita, in 1960. Together they traveled the new bridge to the Lower Peninsula to find work and start a family. They settled in Lansing where Dave found work as a milkman for Sealtest Dairy, then later retired from Domestic Linen Co. After retiring the couple spent winters in Arizona where they developed many dear friendships. Dave loved sports: basketball, softball, bowling and golf. He played softball well into his seventies, both in Lansing and Arizona, until Parkinson’s slowed him down to just golf. In 2018 Dave was inducted into the St. Ignace High School Hall of fame for his excellence in basketball. Dave was a member of the Sault Saint Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, St. Therese Parish, Teamsters Union, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the St. Johns chapter of the Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle Club. David’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita (Robinson) Holtham; sons, Bob (Ronda) Holtham of Eaton Rapids, Chris (Kristine) Holtham of Lansing, Matt (Lynn) Holtham of Corunna, Damon (Angie) Holtham of Muskegan; grandchildren, Autumn, Matthew, Jamie, Josh, Nicholas, Amanda, Bailey; great grandchildren, Raelynn, Benjamin, Jensen, Rylee and Paige. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 am Wednesday May 5 at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, 102 W. Randolph St., Lansing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and also on Tuesday May 4 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt. There will be a burial service in St. Ignace this summer. Donations in honor of Dave may be made to Sparrow Hospice, PO Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909.

We were saddened to hear of the loss of Dave. Dave worked part-time for us at Capital Pharmacy and Hot Shots Nuclear Medicine in Lansing for several years. He was a dedicated worker and just a great asset to have around the office. We enjoyed discussing every sport, especially MSU basketball, golf and his winter travels to Arizona. He was very proud of his children and grandkids. We wish Rita and the rest of the Holtham family the best. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Take care.

Our bowling team bowled with Dave's bowling team on Wednesday night for many years.....we went to many State tournaments over the years and had some wonderful times.....we didn't see him for many years after bowling ended, but reconnected about 6 or 7 years ago at another funeral.....after we all retired with got together rain or shine for lunch on Thursday afternoon at various taverns in the area.....I had forgotten, what a great story teller he had been.....he was a great addition to our gang and we had a lot of laughs every week....he got pretty quiet after he was diagnosed, but kept coming to lunch and would just sit there and laugh at all the yelling and arguing we would do......last August we had Rita and Dave over for burgers on a Sunday afternoon......They shared many great stories with us about growing up in St. Ignace when the bridge was being built......we were all amazed with Rita's memory and knowledge about the construction.....it was like we had been there....amazing and such fun.....Dave and Rita also took us on tours of St. Ignace several times, what a fun couple.....only wish we had known them sooner over the years......i can only second all the wonderful things everyone has said about Dave......May he rest in peace......may the Lord bless and keep him always.....most sincerely....Don and Claudia Mueller

Holtham Family,

I remember my childhood next door neighbors vividly, and Dave was a wonderful and kind man. He always had a smile on his face, and he was a good friend to many. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing, and I send my deepest condolences to all of you. Please know you're in my prayers.

Back in the day, I met Dave playing softball with him on the old Smith Floral team. We traveled the state for many years, playing way too many games. Dave was always hard working, skilled, honest and fun loving. After being with or visiting with Dave, you just felt better. My wife Vicki and I ate at the Galley restaurant in St Ignace . We walked across the street to the ice cream store, and unexpectedly ran into Dave and Rita, now that was a trip maker. Condolences to Rita and the family.

Dave was one of my best friends since the 8th grade when I moved to St Ignace from Lansing in 1952. We enjoyed playing all sports in high school and remained friends through the years. We were so happy see Dave and Rita whenever Kathy and I made trips to Michigan from Texas. We were thrilled to learn that Dave was selected to the St. Ignace Hall of Fame the last time we saw him in 2018. Rest in Peace.

TRULY a GREAT man! And the best uncle one could ask for. My heart is broken, but I am comforted knowing Uncle Dave is now with Jesus our Savior; shooting hoops from the most beautiful hardwood, hitting the soft ball on the most pristine ball diamonds, driving a Titleist on the greenest fairways, and riding a Gold Wing on the most picturesque highways. I Love You Uncle Dave!!!
