David Randolph Stripling, age 55, of DeWitt Township, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, surrounded by his family. Born in Lansing, Michigan, to Randolph Stripling and Janet Detrant, Dave built a life rooted in hard work, family, and friendship.
Dave was a master mechanic for over 30 years. Self-taught and exceptionally gifted, he began his career at Chuck’s Garage in 1994, later worked at Capital Cadillac, and eventually opened his own business, D.S. Auto. He was known by many as the best mechanic in Lansing, he was someone who could fix just about anything with an engine. If it didn’t run, Dave would find a way to make it.
He married Leslie Butler in 1993, sharing 23 years together, raising three beautiful daughters: Kaylie, Taylor, and Jennah. Being a father was the greatest happiness of Dave’s life, and his daughters were his proudest accomplishment. His devotion to them never wavered.
Dave shared ten wonderful years with his girlfriend, Joy English, whose love and steadfast presence remained by his side through his final moments.
He loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren, camping and traveling with Joy and their dogs, Skylar and Cooper, working on anything with a motor, spending time on his boat or at the dunes, tinkering in the barn, and sharing a Bud Light with friends.
Dave was funny, brilliant, and selfless, always putting others before himself. Known as the hardest worker in the room, he balanced a strong work ethic with a playful spirit and a genuine love for life.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Joy English; his children, Kaylie Carter (Joel Carter), Taylor Stripling, and Jennah Stripling; his grandchildren, Levi McCain and June Carter; his sister, Lisa Grysen; and his nieces, Krysta Towne, Erin Romel, and Carrie Wolf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph Stripling and Janet Detrant.
Dave’s strength, humor, and generous heart will live on in the stories we share, the lessons he taught us, and the love he gave so freely. He was the kind of man who showed up without hesitation, worked harder than anyone in the room, and made life more fun simply by being in it. Though he was taken from us far too soon, Dave made a lasting impact on everyone he met, and we are all better for having known him.
Memorial service will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E Washington, DeWitt, MI 48820, US, on March 5, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
