Donald W. Peterson

Donald W. Peterson was born on September 16, 1937 in Lansing, son of the late Carl and Marye (Patrick) Peterson, and passed away on January 29, 2015 at the age of 77. He was a resident of DeWitt for over 40 years and moved to Gaylord, MI where he lived for the last 18 years. He was a Veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict and volunteered for Veterans Affairs and Veterans Trust Fund. Don was named Veteran of the Year in 2005. He retired from General Motors after 16 years as a Security Officer. He volunteered and drove the bus for cancer patients. He was always helping people. He was also an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. Don was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Laura Kay; son, Gary Allen; and brother, Gary. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Ruth; son, Douglas (Kathy Zamaites) Peterson; five grandchildren, Justin (Cora), Ryan Carl, Matthew Douglas, Alyssa and Emily Peterson; and brother, Curtis (Margie) Peterson. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, MI. The family will receive friends from 2:00~4:00 p.m. and 6:00 ~8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the sevice on Wednesday. The interment will be at DeWitt Cemetery with Military Honors to follow.
