

Doris Alzina (Sibley) Steinhardt passed away January 14, 2015. Doris Alzina (Sibley) Steinhardt was born on June 27, 1922 in Dewitt Michigan. She was the daughter of Alger Russell and Lilah Ruth (Parkhouse) Sibley. She received her education in Dewitt Public Schools and later attended Lansing Central High School graduating in 1939. She was also a graduate of Acme Business College in Lansing, Michigan. She married Carl Frank Steinhardt on May 17, 1941 at the Dewitt Community Church. Carl and Doris had met as children when they and their parents were members of the Dewitt Grange. She began her business career with the Chamber of Commerce and during World War II she worked for Nash-Kelvinator in Lansing, a defense industry manufacturing aircraft propellers. Doris had two children Gary Carl in 1944 and Shirley Jane in 1947. She put her career on hold until her children reached school age. She later worked for twenty seven years at Information Services in the College of Agriculture at Michigan State University retiring in 1984. She lived most of her life in rural Dewitt and moved to Ocala, Florida in 1986. She was a member of the Dewitt Community Church and later of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocala. She served for a number of years as a 4H leader and shared with young 4Hers her special skills in needlecraft and as a seamstress.
Doris is survived by her son Gary and his wife Thinh of West Lafayette, Indiana and by her daughter Shirley and husband James Stone of Ocala, Florida. She is also survived by her three granddaughters; Angela A. Steinhardt and her husband Jonathan Sobieski and their daughter Jolie Aimee of Boston, Massachusetts, Alison L. Stone and her husband Christopher Collins and their daughter Madison Lynn of Ocala, Florida and Sarah J. Steinhardt of Tampa, Florida. She is also survived by her sister in law Shirley Sibley of Seattle Washington and brother in law Robert Schultheiss of Traverse City, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her two brothers, Russell A. Sibley and Howard A. Sibley and her sister Delene L. Schultheiss.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00am at the Gorsline Runciman DeWitt Chapel, 205 E Washington St., DeWitt, MI. The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, January 30, 2015 at the DeWitt Chapel, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing, MI.
