My deepest condolences to Sandy, Georgie and Becky.   It was during a phone call today with a friend back in MI that I learned that George had passed and it saddened me a great deal.  My earliest recall of George was when I joined Dr. Monroe's lab at MSU where George was his PhD student in about 1967 or '68.   His obituary mentioned the word 'detailed' and that surely fits George.  He was a master of detail (maybe PhD of it).  Very intelligent as well.  There were many years between the last two times I visited the Ayers homestead and I was amazed at how he had effected so many changes that I no longer recognized it:  George was also very industrious.  So sorry for the loss to you all.
