Harold R. Weinman

WEINMAN, Harold R., age 101, of DeWitt, MI, went to be with his heavenly Father Dec. 17, 2018. He was born Oct. 10, 1917 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the son of Charles and Ethel (Steidinger) Weinman. A lifelong resident of the greater Lansing Area, he was a 1935 graduate of Lansing Central High School, the Armed Forces Information School, and several short courses at LCC and MSU. Harold married Ann Sierkowski June 15, 1940, who preceded him in death in 1976. They had one child, Robert, who passed away in 1999.On May 6, 1978 he married Dorothy (McNabb) Beasley. When the National Guard was called into federal service in 1939 in preparation for WWII, he enlisted in the Mich. State Troops for home security. He took part in the policing of two public disturbances, the 1967 race-riot in the Detroit area and the labor strike in Flint. In 1942 he was drafted in the U.S. Army, graduated from Infantry Officer School in 1944, served his country honorably in the European theater during WWII. Upon his return home in late 1946 he resumed his position with Michigan Farm Bureau and he joined the National Guard 46th Inf. Div. as it’s public information officer. He retired as a major with 23 years of military service. In 1956 he became editor of the Charlotte Newspaper and V.P. of the Publishing Co. He served as Lansing Jaycee Secretary, Charlotte city councilman, mayor pro-tem, Chamber of Commerce president, United Way board chairman, director of Lions Club, 32nd degree Mason and life member of Charlotte Lodge 120 F & AM. In 1960, he joined GM Olds. Div. as a technical writer, then supervisor of service publications before retiring in 1982 with 20 years of service. He was an active member of South Baptist Church for over 56 years. More significantly, he leaves a legacy of his faithful walk with the Lord having served as Deacon Board Chairman, Mission Focus chairman, Sunday School leader and head usher. While in retirement in Texas and Mexico, he served as chairman of Bibleville Conference Association and president of the Eleventh Hour Mission Crusade. Harold also was a man of integrity who loved the Lord and held fast to his convictions and Christian principles. As an aspiring artist he produced over 150 paintings. He, with his wife, were world travelers over 30 years and created 67 travellogues of their world trips which they shared with senior citizen and church groups in Michigan, Texas and Florida. As a sports enthusiast he liked bowling, golf, boating, fishing and watching sporting events. Harold is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two grandsons, Jeffrey, and Christopher (Lauren); a daughter-in-law, Sharon; sister-in-law, Helen; step-daughter, Linda (Stephen) Tibbitts; a great granddaughter, and great-grandson; many nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being made by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel where the family will receive friends and relatives from 4-7 pm Dec. 20. Funeral services will be held Dec. 21 at 11 am with visitation one hour prior at South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Dr., Lansing, MI 48917 with Rev. Dr. Don Denyes officiating. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to South Church Building Fund, Lansing City Rescue Mission or Lansing Salvation Army.
