Born March 19, 1944 in Lansing, Jan was the daughter of the late James and Leota (Gladstone) Whitehead and a 1962 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School. On September 30, 1967, she married Ronald L. Pinney in Lansing.
Having worked as a beautician after high school until she had her first child, she was then a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends.
She returned to the workforce as a part-time sample demonstrator at various grocery stores in the 80s to make money to pay for the extra things in life, especially for her girls to go to prom, senior pictures, and to have a nice graduation open house. She was also a volunteer at a nursing home on the south side of Lansing, and she would bring her girls to help hand out cookies and coffee or juice while she read the newspaper to the residents. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, DeWitt.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ronald L. Pinney, her three children Cammie (Ronald) Anderson of Newport, MI, Teresa (Matt) Salisbury of Lansing, MI, and Connie (Trey Thornton) Everidge of DeWitt, MI; one brother: Ronnie (Nancy) Whitehead of Winter Garden, FL, nine grandchildren: Anthony, Alainah, Merissa, Sarena, Chance, Cola, Kurtis, Erica, and Kyle; and 15 great-grandchildren: Ava, Savannah, Zena, Teagan, Wyatt, Violet, Payton, Charlotte, Zoey, Kaiden, Harrison, Zuri, Kennedy, Juliette, and August.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Gorsline Runciman DeWitt Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service. A meal will follow at Heritage Baptist Church, 1380 E. Round Lake Road, DeWitt.
