Joanne Wells

Joanne Wells passed away at Gunnisonville Meadows in Lansing, Michigan on April 6, 2022. She was 89 years old. Her heart longed to be reunited with her beloved husband Robert Wells, who preceded her in death in 2015. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan where she shared businesses with Bob: Wells Landscaping, Channel One Multi-Media Productions; and supporting him as a public school teacher. As the daughter of Louise and Herbert Hendry, she shared a brother Herbert, all preceding her in death. Joanne raised three daughters in Monroe, Lynda Joanne Schoonover (William) of Dewitt MI, Susan Mertz Wells of Royal Oak MI and Roberta Kay Bonelli-Wells (Bonnie Bonelli) of Fort Wayne IN. She has three grandsons, William Robert Schoonover (Serenity), Andrew James Schoonover (Chrissy) and David Michael Schoonover (Holli), and eight special great-grandchildren (Mikell, Hallie, Eve, Addi, Cooper, Emi, Elly and Charley).

Joanne met her groom at Michigan Normal College in Ypsilanti where they both were students. Bob and Joanne settled in Monroe, MI where Joanne grew up. She was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in Monroe participating with the Women's Circle and the Twelve Group. She enjoyed going to the "Big House" in Ann Arbor and traveling out West with Bob for perfect photo opportunities. Her favorite location was Traverse City, Michigan where she and Bob honeymooned in 1952. Her family continues to make annual trips to the city because it is "tradition".

Joanne befriended anyone she met. Her charitable heart included grace of conversation with strangers, a forgiving spirit, an incredible sense of humor and a loyalty to her family and her friends. In her last years, she and Bob shared rooms at Gunnisonville Meadows Assisted Living which became her extended family and where she was affectionately named "the Mayor".

Arrangements for Joanne are managed by Gorsline Runciman in DeWitt Michigan. Services are planned at Redeemer Methodist Church in DeWitt Michigan on Wednesday April 13, 2022 11:00 a.m. with viewing an hour prior. Donations are preferred to Gunnisonville Meadows Senior Assisted Living in honor of the great love and care she received for the last eight years of her live.
