A woman who treasured family and friends, Marilyn found her greatest happiness in the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her warm heart, vibrant spirit, and the joy she brought to gatherings, especially around the holidays. Marilyn loved sharing those moments with loved ones, always surrounded by the people who meant the most to her.
She loved the color blue and enjoyed playing cards, visiting the casino, and, most of all, being with her great-grandchildren. A great cook and canner, Marilyn took great pride in caring for her family and maintaining a welcoming, comfortable home. She retired from Michigan State University, where she made lifelong friendships and contributed many years of service.
Marilyn is survived by her devoted husband, Duane H. Phillips; children, Beth (David) Ziegler, Wayne Phillips, and Steve (Beth) Phillips; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark S. Johnson.
Her memory will be cherished by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Marilyn’s legacy of love, kindness, and warmth will live on through the generations she leaves behind.
