

Tom Van Zee, age 63, passed away peacefully December 28, 2014 surrounded by Connie, the love of his life and wife of 38 years, and family. He was carried by angels to his Father in heaven where we will one day see him again. Tom (along with his twin brother, Terry) was born on June 1, 1951 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was one of nine children born to Margene and Wilbur Van Zee. Tom was partially blind at birth and totally blind by the age of 26, but he didn’t let anything slow him down or stop him. He was raised on a dairy farm and loved farming. He later worked at the Lansing State Journal where he touched and influenced the lives of his many friends in his own special way. He cared for people and was a wonderful and wise counselor and advisor. He will be cherished and remembered by his family who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents. Tom is survived by his four children, Michael (ShanTana) Sollid, Frances Gunn, Brian (Amy) Van Zee, Scott (Rebecca) Van Zee; seven grandchildren, Michael Z. Sollid, Carolyn Gunn, Cassandra Gunn, Ricky Bergey Jr., Logan Roper, Daniel Van Zee, and Hanna Van Zee; eight brothers and sisters, David (Karen) Van Zee, Bill (Mary Lou)Van Zee, Marilyn (Doug) Stolk, Ronald (Julie) Van Zee, Barbara (Dave) Stipcak, Terry Van Zee (Tom’s twin), John (Jaque Lee)Van Zee, Donna (Nick) Moseley, sister-in-law, Sharon Neff and brother-in-law, Gaylord Neff, whom he loved as his own brother and sister; along with several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Grand Ledge Baptist Church, 1120 W. Willow Highway. Family will receive friends and relatives from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice and Palliative Care, 2675 S. Cochran, Charlotte, MI 48813, or Jerusalem Prayer Team, P.O. Box 30246, Phoenix, AZ 85046, in memory of Tom. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel.
