Karen Shaheen Mistretta

She was an elementary school teacher for 33 years with the Ascension Parish School System. She helped her husband with Bernardo's Catering for over 50 years. She enjoyed the beauty of flowers, trips to the casino, going on cruises, and shopping but most of all spending time with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bernard "Bernie"; sister, Susan Albus (Chris); two brothers, Glenn Shaheen (Glenda) and James Shaheen (Mona); brother-in-laws, Michael Mistretta (Lisa), Bryan Mistretta (Jackie), Patrick Mistretta, Donald Mistretta (Pam), David Mistretta (Jill); sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Webre (Carl), Rosalie Barksdale (Jesse); along with a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Lena Shaheen; in-laws, Bernard and Rosalie Mistretta; sister-in-laws, Cheryl Manders and Andrea Mistretta.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Baton Rouge General Hospital, Amedisys, Fresenius Kidney Care and The Crossing Hospice for their care and support. A special thanks to Doris Hebert for her love, caretaking and compassion at her home.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville from 9:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial for 12:00 pm. Interment to follow in the church mausoleum. Father Cleo Milano will be officiating.
