
Mary Katherine was a loving sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Mary Katherine was a brilliant woman who held a Bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences from Nicholls State University, a Master’s degree in library science from UT-Austin, and a Ph.D. in theater from LSUBR. She had a long career as a research librarian. She was the original librarian at Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) in Cocodrie. She served as a librarian in public libraries in Orleans Parish, East Baton Rouge Parish, and at the LSU-Baton Rouge libraries. She started a women’s theater workshop at Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women in St. Gabriel, LA, at which inmates wrote, directed, and performed plays.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her brother, Samuel M. Politz and his wife, Betsy Bronstein, both of Worcester, Massachusetts, a niece, Sarah Politz, of Gainesville, Florida, two nephews, Joseph Politz, of San Diego, California and Kevin Politz, of Worcester, Massachusetts, a great-nephew, Adrian Politz, and numerous cousins in Assumption Parish and St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam Politz of Napoleonville and Edith Borne Politz of Reserve.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 at St. Jules Catholic Church cemetery in Belle Rose, LA.
