She was born in New Roads, LA where she graduated from Poydras Hight School, moving to Baton Rouge with her family shortly afterwards. There she worked for Rosenfield’s Department Store in the cosmetic department – the beginning of her lifelong daily ritual of putting on her make-up. After she married the love of her life, Joseph Bernard Grezaffi, Maudrie and Joe lived in New Roads with their three daughters until 1961, then moved to Donaldsonville, LA for Joe to continue his career with State National Life Insurance Company. There she worked as a bookkeeper at Lemann’s Department Store and then as the office manager of Lower Delta Soil and Water Conservation District from which she retired. Maudrie enjoyed cooking, reading, watching game shows and traveling, especially on the many company trips with Joe. Although she could not boil water when she first got married, she became a wonderful cook, even being featured in The Advocate with her daughters in an article titled “Mom’s recipes center family.” Maudrie lived at Lake Sherwood Village Retirement Community in Baton Rouge for the past 10 years where she enjoyed the company of many friends.
Maudrie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Grezaffi, parents Florian and Edna Theriot, brother James Theriot, son-in-law John Bourgeois and great-granddaughter Lydia Bourgeois. She is survived by her daughters Sharon Bourgeois, Marsha Bergeron (Lester) and Vicki Brooks (Jay), grandchildren Chad Bourgeois (Ashley), Christen Bourgeois, Les Bergeron (Kristy), Carolina Jones (Bryan), Megan Brooks (Nick), BJ Brooks (Hannah), Joshua Brooks (Anna) and great-grandchildren Cora Singer, Jenah Bergeron, Hannah Bergeron, Luke Bergeron, Elle Jones, Emma Jones, Gabrielle Richardson, Connor Richardson, Nora Brooks, Josephine Brooks, Remy Brooks and Ameline Brooks. Maudrie’s family is grateful to the loving and compassionate care she received from Audubon Healthcare Services at Lake Sherwood, St. Joseph Hospice and in her final days at the Carpenter House.
