Beverly Marie Winter
Beverly passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 5th, 2012, after a brief battle with thyroid cancer. Born January 9th, 1930 in Spokane, Washington, she was the younger of two daughters of Mary and Ira Jessee. She graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles in 1947, becoming the first one in the family to receive a high school diploma. A passionate dancer, mom spent many hours dancing to the big bands at the Aragon Ballroom on Lick Pier in Santa Monica and continued dancing the rest of her life in some fashion whether it be with Janet Baker’s dance, tap and exercise classes through the Downey Parks and Recreation Department or more recently at the Downey Senior’s Club. Although she actually met and later married her husband Donald Winter after a double date fishing, she found a partner who himself was also a great dancer who’d trained at Arthur Murray. It was a match made in heaven that lasted 56 wonderful years. She had a caring and generous soul and put people at ease with her humorous spirit. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Donald; daughters Diane and Katherine; son Robert; granddaughters Jasmine, Christy and Julie; grandson Logan and great-granddaughters Chloe and Brooke. A memorial celebration of her life will take place in June. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles or to the wonderful caregivers of Faith Care Hospice in Covina, California.
