Los Angeles, CA. ~ Downey, CA.
Our loving Brother, Father, and Grandfather peacefully reunited with his beloved wife, Rebecca, of 55 years. One of nine children, he is survived by one sister, Gloria; three children, James Justin Shea Jr., C. Colleen Baylis, M. Maureen Shea-Fuszard; and seven grandchildren. Born to the large Irish family of John C. Shea and Agnes E. Shea, James was a proud man of country and community. He honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps at El Toro, CA. during the Second World War. After the war he went on to serve his community as a police officer in both Los Angeles’ vice and juvenile divisions from 1947 to 1957. After graduating form Southwestern University, School of Law he spent many years as a prosecuting attorney and later as the Head Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County until his retirement in 1981. Outside his career life he was always active in community fundraising for local charities and politicians as well as being active in the Boy Scouts of America.
He will always be remembered not just for his life of service, but also for his “can-do” spirit and love of family. Amongst friends he was always well liked and respected, with a knack for bringing friends together. He always enjoyed story telling with a favorite story being that of working for the movie studios during the depression. He also enjoyed foreign and domestic travel with his wife, Notre Dame Football, and family gatherings and outings (especially Thanksgiving, 4th of July, and Monday Night Football dinners). Whether host or guest, friend or family, everyone was always welcome. "
