

Leona Michaud was a modest woman, quiet and observant in her ways. She was trustworthy and traditional in her approach to her life and in her relationships. She was tough-minded with the kind of “stick to it” attitude that earned the respect of all who knew her. She was also a woman who was meticulous, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything she undertook. Realistic about life, she was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility. She was the daughter of Edward and Margaret Casper. Leona was raised with five siblings. She had two brothers; Bob, Don, and three sisters; Louise, Charlotte and Susie. Leona was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years. Always considered a “good” friend to those she knew, Leona enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during her lifetime. While growing up, her best friend was Lilly-May. Later in life, she remained best friends with Lilly-May. Empathic and loyal, Leona was committed to making her new family happy. Leona worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Leona was blessed with four children, Ed, Frank, Jacqueline, and John Fitzgerald. Another blessing for Leona was the gift of five grandchildren, David, Sherry, Jessica, Clarissa, and Haleigh. Fortunately, Leona enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Leona worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was a homemaker, but she also worked as a waitress and in catering. Leona always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done. Leona enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were sewing, croteching, and bingo. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others. Leona found pleasure in sports. Leona was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following her favorite events whenever she had the chance to do so. Tops on her list were watching bowling and the Dodgers. Throughout her life, Leona was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Throughout her later years, Leona was an active member of the Air Force Mother's Club, the Women's Guild, and helping with church activites such as carnival and bingo. Leona was a woman who took pride in upholding her beliefs. Politically, Leona was a Democrat. Leona’s faith was important to her. She was a member of St. Dominic Savio for 51 years. Leona enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included camping and visiting Las Vegas and Laughlin. Leona was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of her favorites was Princess, a Corgidor. Leona passed away on August 27, 2009 at at home with her family. Leona battled Alzheimers. She is survived by her children, Ed, Jacqueline, and John; her grandchildren David, Sherry, Jessica, Clarissa, and Haleigh. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Andy, DJ, Dylan, Briana, Nicholas, Michael, Tyler, Maugie, Ricky, and Izzy. Services were held at St. Dominic Savio Catholic Church. Leona was laid to rest in All Souls Catholic Cemetery in Long Beach, California. Simply stated, Leona was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Leona leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Leona Michaud.
