

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Danute “Dana” (Antanaitis) Gutauskas, who peacefully left us on February 2, 2026 at the age of 101. She was born on February 23, 1924 in Panevežys Lithuania. She married her beloved Liudas in 1947 and the two of them emigrated as WWII refugees to Canada in 1949. Dana was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
She taught Grade 1 in Burlington for 22 years after completing teacher’s college at the age of 43. She was a leader in the Lithuanian-Canadian scouting community. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and was a pillar of strength to all who knew her. Her generosity and warm spirit touched the lives of many.
She is survived by her two sons Andrew (Carol) and Paul (Anne), grandchildren Ona, Kristina, John (Jessica), Clara (Jason), Vincent (Jessica Rose), Tiesa, Amanda, Kevin (Ariel), and Mark (Courtney), great-grandchildren Lukas, Jude, Hugh, Brady, Oliver, and Rhys, sisters Jovita Strikas and Stella Panavas, and nieces/nephews in Canada and the USA. She was preceded in death by her husband Liudas.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Monday February 16th at Marlatt Funeral Home “Swackhamer Chapel”, 195 King Street West, Dundas. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday February 17th at Lithuanian Martyrs Parish, 2185 Stavebank Road, Mississauga. Interment to follow at St. John’s Lithuanian Cemetery (next to the church). Following the interment, there will be a reception at the adjacent Anapilis Hall. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate her beautiful life. In lieu of flowers, donations, in Danute’s memory, may be made to the Lithuanian Children’s Relief Fund (Pagalba Lietuvos Vaikams).
