Gloria Olive Lucy Bissell

Our dear mom and grandmother, Gloria Olive Lucy (Burton) Bissell passed away quietly in her sleep, in the comfort of her own home in Dundas, Ontario on January 29, 2025 at the age of 96. Predeceased by her life-long love, Bruce, her highschool sweetheart and husband of 56 years. Remembered with much love by her daughters Brenda (Gregg) and Stephanie (Robin). Beloved Nana to Julia (Justin), Jake, Nick and Eddie.

Survived by sisters-in-law Elaine Burton and Pat Bissell, cousin Joan Mclean, and many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Eli and Bessie, and siblings Gus, Margaret, Willa, Lloyd and Bob, dear friend and cousin Shirley White, her nephew Bryan and niece Kathy.

Gloria’s life was focused on her husband and family. She put others before herself. Although she travelled the world, home was most important to her. Her talents and creativity were expressed through sewing, knitting and crocheting, experimenting with new recipes, decorating her home and cultivating her garden. She modeled quiet strength, humility and hard work. A life-long Christian, Gloria saw the hand of God in nature’s beauty.

Thanks to the support of a very caring healthcare team Gloria was able to stay in her own home to the end. We are so very grateful to devoted caregivers Maria and Mehak, who gently cared for Gloria and made her days happy and to nurse Mui and Dr. Zoe for their expertise, responsiveness and kindness.

A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held this coming spring (her favourite time to be in the garden). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
