Jim had been enjoying a scenic drive with the Rallis when he suffered massive heart failure and passed away at Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at the age of 97. Survived by daughter Roxanne and son-in-law John Keddy, and sister-in-law Helen Tomlin. Predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years Gladys (Duckett); Father Frank and Mother Helen (step-Mom Jean); brothers Joe (Jean), John (Anne) and George. Jim will be profoundly missed by Graciela & Jorge, Gigy & Brodie, Fed & Nicole; nephews, nieces and countless friends.
The Ross’ immigrated from Scotland when ‘Hamish’ was a young lad and settled in Toronto’s Kew Beach. Jim served overseas in the RCAF in WWII as a W.A.G., was seconded to the RAF, and trained as a Commando. Taking early retirement from Goodyear Canada Jim cared for his Glady 24/7 for 22 years at their Mississauga home. The Scottish Highlands beckoned Dad and Mom who visited Frank and Jean yearly until 1986. Roxanne and Jim returned in 2013 for an ambitious driving tour including The Orkneys. For more than six years, Dad benefited from the lifestyle and companionship at Amica Dundas.
Dad was a giver - generous and hospitable to all – and the charismatic life of the party. A natural athlete who excelled in track, Jim also won championships at golf, darts and horseshoes. He was a true sailor who navigated Lake Ontario without an engine! Dad enjoyed classic song and dance movies, a wee dram, sweets and chocolate. His puns, pranks and sense of humour remain legendary. Perhaps his longevity may be credited to his, “Never worry about it until it happens” motto.
Cremation has occurred and interment will follow at Toronto’s St. John’s Norway.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.marlattfhdundas.com for the Ross and Keddy families.
