
Jessie died peacefully with family by her side at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas, Ont., on September 12, 2011. Born March 12, 1911, Jessie is the cherished wife of Edward Devlin (1983) with whom she is now surely reunited. She was deeply loved by family members near and far who formed the centre of her life including twin sons Edwin Devlin and Bruce Devlin (2002) and daughter Janet Flett; daughters-in-law Joan Devlin, Evelyn Devlin (2007), Lillian Devlin Szego and son-in-law Norman Flett; her adored grandchildren Jill Pollock (Geoff Canon), Chris Devlin (Joanne), Megan Devlin-Preiksa (Tim Preiksa), Tammy Green (Brad), Arden Burstein (Todd Griffiths), Tom Devlin (Jacquie), Laurie Rosanelli (Ross), Heather Scott (David) and Ted Flett; and great grandchildren Taya and Todd Devlin, Griffin and Landon Preiksa, Harry and Charlie Green, Arielle and Devlin Burstein, Dylan Devlin, Garrett Gutierrez and Luke Devlin (2007), Michael and Jesse Rosanelli and Lily Scott. She is lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Laura Dickinson and now reunited with parents William Franklin Dickinson and Phoebe Elizabeth Cooper, brother Arthur Dickinson and sisters Eliza Lawson (David) and Vera Buyers (Lorne). Throughout the vibrant chapters of her life, Jessie made a deep impression on her community, church and family. A registered nurse, who graduated from Collingwood Hospital with gold medal honours in 1932, Jessie’s precise and compassionate care was delivered to patients and loved ones with devotion. An unassuming and generous artist, her stunning works of porcelain art – more than 1,000 – are treasured by grateful recipients. Nana’s approach to parenting and grand-parenting – devoted and principled combined with modern, progressive thinking – serves as an example to her ever-growing family. Jessie’s love, pride, marriage, humour, vitality, grace and endless wit will continue to inspire family members, friends, colleagues and caregivers. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 26, 2011, 11 a.m. at Grace Anglican Church, 317 Main Street East, Milton, Ont. L9T 1P5, followed by an interment at Milton Evergreen Cemetery, 190 Ontario Street South, Milton, Ont. L9T 2M9. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Joseph’s Villa Foundation or Grace Anglican Church, Milton.
