April 30th, 1945 – April 8th, 2015
Predeceased by his son Johnny, Fred is mourned by his wife Susan, children Sandy (Anna), Andrew (Lesley), Steven (Erica), Suzie (Shaun), Hilary (Chris) and Timothy (Olya); sister Margi (Greg), niece Nancy (Josh), first wife Donna and grandchildren Rebecca, Ryan, Robert, Matthew, Ian, Lilya, Colin, Jack, Madilynn, and Edward. Fred died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, from complications related to pneumonia. For 45 years at Ecodyne in Burlington, Ontario, Fred missed only 7 ½ days of work as a team leader, trouble shooter, technical sales manager and valued mentor. Most importantly, Fred was the beloved head of his large and quirky clan. He had a deep understanding that there is richness in daily life and true splendour in close relationships. If asked he gave trustworthy, careful and respectful advice, born of his vast experience, close observations, and strong ethics. He was not though, Saint Fred. There was an afternoon nap quality about him, and no one enjoyed his jokes more than he did. For Fred, there was no contradiction between a great sense of humour and a deep sense of kindness, between a love of fast powerful cars and the stories behind a piece of antique pottery or between a love of top audio equipment – analogue! – and the quiet contemplation of fishing. He was a welcoming, generous host loved by all including the true testers of character, children and animals. Wise and gentle, strong and loving, Fred was a truly good man.
Now cracks a noble heart
