It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Victoria Young-Decker, loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and friend. She passed peacefully with family and nursing staff by her side at St. Peter’s Hospital on December 20th, 2013. Victoria was predeceased by her first husband and the love of her life John Young, and second husband Lloyd Young “the three musketeers”. She will be greatly missed by her current husband, travel companion and caregiver Walter Decker and his family, her devoted daughter Loretta Farraway (Tom), grandchildren Robin, Holly (Nick) and Kelly (Joe), and great-grandchildren Sydney, Airlie, Nyah, Tailem, Reno and Ava. Victoria is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and always looked forward to her nephew Walter Myzuk’s weekly visits. Victoria is also survived by her lifelong friend Lois Fanson.
Born on the 4th concession Victoria Mary Ann Kolenski was the 8th of 9 Children born to Mary and Luowick Kolenski. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters Katy, Clara, Joseph, John, Edward, Frank, Helen and Eva. Victoria’s parents came to Canada from Poland and settled on the 4th concession in Millgrove. They eventually moved to the 5th and 6th concession before settling on Parkside Dr. in Dundas. At the age of 16 Victoria moved to Hamilton to work at Stelco. She was also employed by Reid Paper Box and National Paper Goods. Victoria loved travelling, euchre, and her visits to the cottage fishing with her favourite (one and only) Son-in-Law Tom. She possessed spirit, enthusiasm and a zest for life. Last year we celebrated her 85th Birthday with all her family and friends. This was one of her most joyous and fulfilling moments. It meant a lot to her to have family and friends together for her birthday as she cherished those moments with loved ones the most.
Special thanks to the caring, compassionate and loving staff on 3E at St. Peter’s Hospital who aided Victoria with a dignified and comfortable passing. Sincere thank you to the kindness of Dr. Beverly Hattersly.
In accordance with Victoria’s wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. Cremation to follow with a private interment in the future.
In lieu of flowers, Victoria preferred you take a friend to lunch or make a donation to one of the following charities, St. Peters Hospital or Ronald McDonald House.
