Charles Derohanian, 88, of East Hartford, formerly of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Livingstone) Derohanian. On that day, Mary Ann lost the love of her life as well as her best friend and greatest confidant. He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Charles was born in Hartford on May 22, 1931, son of the late Donig and Mary (Karageusian) Derohanian.
He was an avid soccer player, playing for Wethersfield High School and later played for the Army while serving in Germany. After returning from Germany, he met his wife and moved to Vernon and then East Hartford where they raised their family. Charles worked in the tool and dye industry as a plate maker for The Hartford Times and later GioGraphics until he retired. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, the beach, vacationing in Florida and puttering around his garden.
Besides his loving wife of 62 years, Charles is survived by his three sons, Daniel of North Port, Florida; Joseph of South Windsor; and David of Granby; his daughter, Lori Michalek and her husband Douglas of East Hartford; six grandchildren, Kevin, Kelsey, Tyler, Cory, Griffin and Courtney. He is also survived by his two sisters, Vee Kaloustian and Margo Yaylaian (and Tom), as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his mother, father and his beloved grandfather, Tavid (“Baboo”) Derohanian, as well as his sister, Alice Barsamian (and Al).
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his aides Abigail and Shari, his physical therapist Betsy and his occupational therapist Amanda, for all of their personal care and compassion during difficult times.
The family will receive relatives and friends at D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel on Saturday (August 17) from 10 - 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the conclusion of calling hours. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford, followed by a private family luncheon celebrating Charles’ life.
