

Carlton W. Bailey, 91, of East Hartford, loving husband of 57 years of the late Pauline (Fisher) Bailey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at his home. Born in Suffield on June 27, 1925, a son of the late George and Florence (Birge) Bailey he had been a resident of East Hartford since 1955. Carlton was a loyal employee of Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford for more than 38 years, working as a Jet Engine Instructor. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a devoted and involved member for over 51 years of South Congregational Church in East Hartford, where he served as a deacon for many years. Carlton was also a long-time member of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge No. 88 AF & AM in Hartford. In his spare time, Carlton loved to go hunting in Vermont with his family, and could often be seen tending to his vegetable garden or tinkering with his cars in his garage. Carlton is survived by his son, Carlton Bailey and his wife, Nancy of Middletown; his two daughters, Lindy Pickard of Hollywood, FL, and Jill Bailey Stebbins and her husband David R. Stebbins of Coventry. One of eight siblings, he is also survived by two brothers, Douglas D. Bailey and his wife, Ruth Ann of Wardsboro, VT, Kendall G. Bailey and his wife, Beulah of East Dover, VT; and sisters Gwendolyn Howe of Windsor, and Jeanne Webster and her husband Ralph of Agawam, MA. He also leaves three beloved grandchildren, Dustin Bailey of Providence, RI, Samantha Stebbins, and Brian Stebbins, both of Coventry. Private funeral service and burial with his late wife Pauline will be held at the family plot in South Newfane, Vermont at a later date. There are no calling hours.
